Niagara-on-the-Lake, An Indulgent Retreat

I love all types of travel. Family travel. Work travel. Travel with my husband. Travel alone. And I like to mix these trips up too in terms of plans. Sometimes I travel with every minute planned out with activities, restaurant reservations, etc. Some vacations like Disney World almost require set plans in order to have a magical experience, while others like a simple camping trip, just need the supplies, the people and voila, magic with no...

Finding the time

Anytime I’ve shared my wellness journey over the years, I have heard things like “wow, I could never get up early to workout” or “eating healthy takes more money and more time to prep” or “My doesn’t help with kids enough so I can’t workout”. Warning, this post comes with a bit of tough love. You’re going to make time for the things that are important to you. Depending on the season of life you are in, you might be able to...

I wear leggings to church.

Not every week, but there are definitely many times that I show up to church in black leggings and a pony tail. My kids are generally pulled together, but I’m last on the list on Sunday mornings to get ready to get out the door. Not every week, but a number of them. And I am thankful that I found a church that embraces me showing up, with all my chaos in tow, and welcomes me as we are.  Cool confession, what’s your point? Getting to...

If I fail to plan, I plan to fail.

April is going to be a joy filled and busy month! To start the month, my husband’s birthday, then Easter Celebrations, a quick getaway mixed in for us to Niagara on the Lake, plus a 4 day work trip to Boston. I can already see the eating and drinking opportunities compiling. This past month I made leaps and bounds in terms of my nutrition with recognizing that my body does best with limiting certain foods (dairy, alcohol, and gluten) and I am...

All the Feels

I’ve been debating internally what I wanted to share about my health journey this week.  I prayed about it and it was put in my heart that if I help one other person make the scary appointment or do the preventative maintenance, then it is worth sharing. This week I had a breast biopsy after a questionable spot was found during an MRI earlier this month. I am incredibly thankful to share that the results came back as benign. But I wanted...

To cheat or to treat? That is the question.

I just wrapped up my 3rd week of a month-long program of eating gluten free, dairy free, and no alcohol. As I’ve seen in the past when I limit gluten and dairy, my body just seems overall happier.  I’ve seen the scale move 6 lbs down, but more importantly, I have less brain fog, I am sleeping better (well, somewhat but kids…), my skin looks healthier, and I definitely have more energy overall. Here’s the secret to my success during...

Hurdles

This week as I was walking my 1 Intentional Mile on a rainy day, I started thinking about hurdles. (If you didn’t catch the other post about my daily 1 Intentional Mile, read here.) Visualize. Imagine you are at the starting line for a running race. You are a sprinter and are a pro at jumping hurdles. You look in front of you and see all the hurdles in your path. The race starts and you are off! Expertly jumping over the hurdles that you know...

Changing habits is hard.

I was reminded how hard changing a habit is this past week.  I am trying a new way of eating for me and for the first week of it, I have removed gluten, dairy, and alcohol from my diet.  This isn’t abnormal for me to do and in the past I have tried this way of eating before.  It’s challenging at first, but I know I can do it if I am intentional. And I feel great when I eat this way. The part that is harder for me to change is...

Curiouser and curiouser

I think the best thing I have done to for myself over the last few years is become curious about my personal wellness. It has shifted my mindset around moving my body and how I fuel my life. I have much more fun than I ever have in the past when I experiment with movement and explore how I feel after eating.  It has helped me remove the judgement I often used to have for myself when I made a “bad” food choice or decided to skip a...

A Reflection – International Women’s Day

I didn’t realize that today was “International Women’s Day” until I saw the Google Doodle on my home page. The image that jumped out to me in the middle was a breastfeeding mother and mother who is bottle feeding, so I clicked to see more details on the image. The overall theme of the doodle is “Women supporting Women” (check out the details here https://www.google.com/doodles/international-womens-day-2023).  I love this theme for...
